We recently celebrated the first World Patient Safety Day.

World Patient Safety Day, organised by the World Health Organisation, is a global campaign to create awareness of patient safety and encourage people to show their commitment to making healthcare safer.

Lesley Massey, Chief Executive, reflects on World Patient Safety Day.

As we come together for the first time globally as a community to think about World Patient Safety Day, I reflect on the last decade of attention AQuA has given to improving the reliability and experience of health care and the drive to reduce levels of harm.

I am hugely grateful to all of the thousands of individuals and the many organisations AQuA works with, who strive constantly every day to make the NHS the safest place to both work and be cared for. Those of us seeing ourselves as part of the safety movement, now recognise how complex and broad the story of safety really is.

Our final reflection for the day comes from Andrea McGuinness, Head of Improvement 

For a long time now we have recognised that most of us working in health and care systems know what is right and good and we try extremely hard to do the right thing for every person every day.

We don’t plan to harm patients and families, or make our colleagues working lives harder than they already are. At AQuA we realised early on that health and care staff already know a lot about the best practice, the best evidence and the best advice to deliver support and care.
