Hospital Acquired Pneumonia (HAP)

Pneumonia can develop in hospital as well as in the community and can happen at any time, including when the patient is ready for discharge.

1 in 4 HAP patients die in hospital and HAP has a significant impact on length of stay. The AQ measures include X-ray, antibiotics and sputum sampling and focus on prompt diagnosis and treatment.


Measures:

HAP-01 NEWS2 recorded within 60 minutes of diagnosis

HAP-02 Chest x-ray performed within 4 hours of diagnosis

HAP-03 Chest x-ray reviewed and recorded within 24 hours

HAP-04 Sputum sample collected within 24 hours of diagnosis

HAP-05 Antibiotics administered within 4 hours of diagnosis

HAP-06 Appropriate antibiotics within 24 hours of diagnosis

HAP-07 Smoking cessation advice offered

HAP-08 Duration of antibiotic therapy for HAP treatment

HAP-09 Medically optimised for discharge at time of diagnosis
