Decompensated Liver Disease (DLD)

Decompensated cirrhosis (irreversible liver damage) is the third biggest cause of death in those of working age and average life expectancy is 1 – 3 years.

DLD patients tend to be resource-intensive, with multiple admissions. Despite this, DLD is condition that receives relatively little attention.

The AQ measures include IV Pabrinex, prompt referral to specialist care and Child-Pugh assessment.


Measures:

DLD-01 Risk of alcohol withdrawal assessment within 8 hours

DLD-02 IV Pabrinex within 8 hours

DLD-03 Ascitic tap within 24 hours of hospital arrival

DLD-04 Infected ascites treated within 12 hours

DLD-05 Referral to alcohol care team within 24 hours

DLD-06 Suspected variceal bleed treated within 24 hours

DLD-07 Specialist review or ward admission within 24 hours

DLD-08 Child-Pugh documented within 24 hours
